FAMILY COUNCIL

What Is It?

A Family Council is a group of family members and friends of residents who meet on a regular basis. The Social Worker acts as liaison and can be contacted at (905) 306 9984.

What is the Purpose?

The main purpose of the Family Council is to improve the quality of life of residents and to give families a voice in decisions that affect them and their loved ones in the facility.

What are the Benefits?

Family

  • Orientation, support, and information for the families of new residents
  • Ongoing mutual support-strength drawn from mutually shared experiences
  • Education and information related to the long-term care system
  • A means to express concern and solve problems

Resident

  • Resident Family input into decisions and changes
  • Family and Resident activities
  • Meet needs through organized efforts Support residents who do not have concerned families or friends

Facility

  • Two-way communication between the home and families
  • Family input to aid staff in problem solving and finding solutions
  • Support on mutual concerns and goals
